Cross Orchards Historic Site

There are museums where you look at history through a pane of glass, and then there are places like Cross Orchards Historic Site in Grand Junction, Colorado. Part of the Museums of Western Colorado, this isn't just a collection of artifacts—it’s one of the best living history museums you’ll ever encounter. Walking onto the grounds feels less like a tour and more like stepping straight into a time machine.

Dating back to the late 1890s and early buildings represent the peak of the Grand Valley's historic fruit-growing boom.

As soon as I started looking through the viewfinder, I knew color wasn’t going to cut it. The vintage farming equipment, the weathered wood of the historic barn, and the old-world structures carried a texture and soul that demanded a classic, black-and-white treatment. Stripping away the color forces you to focus entirely on the interplay of light and shadow, the grit of the timber, and the raw geometry of a bygone era.

This gallery is a monochrome tribute to a beautifully preserved piece of Western history—a visual journey back to a time when life moved at the speed of a horse-drawn wagon.
