Antelope Slot Canyon
These images were captured during a photography tour of Antelope Canyon X in Page, Arizona. While the swirling sandstone and dancing light of the slot canyons are naturally stunning, I wanted to bring a different kind of energy to some of these frames.
To do that, I used a technique I call "Racking the Zoom."
By locking the camera down on a tripod, dropping to the smallest f-stop for a deep field of view, and stretching the exposure out over several seconds, I was able to manually twist the zoom lens from telephoto to wide-angle (and vice versa) while the shutter was open.
The result is a dynamic sense of motion—abstract streaks of vibrant orange and deep purple that make the solid rock look like it's flowing. It’s a mix of intentional camera movement and the canyon’s natural geometry, creating a perspective you don’t normally see in traditional slot canyon photography.
Take a look through the lenses, and I hope you enjoy the ride.
